An “entire life” for sale
When I announced in March 2008 that I was going to list my “entire life” for sale on eBay, the worldwide publicity was amazing. My phone went crazy, ringing night and day with requests for interviews from newspapers, radio studios and TV shows.
I also started getting phone calls from movie studios, producers and Hollywood agents, interested in buying the movie rights to the story. I had one very surreal conversation with a producer from Universal Studios.
She introduced herself, telling me they had been discussing my current actions in the boardroom. “We think what you’re doing is amazing. We see this as a Tom Hanks type of rom-com.”
My joking reply just came straight out of my mouth without thinking. I said, “No, no, no. I rather saw George Clooney playing me.”
Without picking up a hint of the humour I thought was in my voice, she said, “Yes. We could possibly make that happen.”
I received many similar calls, and realised that if I actually wanted to follow up on this I would need help from somebody who actually knew what they were doing.
